Usher High School's teaching staff are qualified professionals committed to academic excellence, Christian values, and the personal growth of every learner. From Form 1 through Lower and Upper Sixth, teachers guide students through the ZIMSEC curriculum with patience, high expectations, and genuine care.

Subject specialists lead seven academic departments, supported by guidance counsellors and senior teachers who mentor colleagues and learners alike. On a boarding campus, teachers are more than classroom instructors, they are role models, prep supervisors, club mentors, and partners with families in raising capable young people.

Usher teachers invest beyond the timetable, marking scripts thoroughly, attending professional development, and being present during evening prep, sport, and co-curricular activities. They know learners by name and track progress across terms, intervening early when a student falls behind.

Commitment at Usher means holding every learner to high standards while offering the support needed to reach them. Teachers collaborate across departments, share best practice, and align their work with the school's Salvation Army values and ZIMSEC examination goals.

Innovative teaching

Usher teachers combine traditional rigour with creative methods, laboratory practicals, farm-based projects, debate, STEM club activities, and technology where available. Lessons aim to build understanding, not rote memorisation, so learners can apply knowledge in examinations and in life.

Science fairs, exhibitions, and cross-curricular projects give teachers and students opportunities to explore ideas beyond the textbook. On a campus with agriculture, poultry, and horticulture, practical subjects connect classroom theory to real work at Usher High School.

Every learner matters. We walk alongside our students, celebrating their victories, guiding them through difficulties, and helping them discover the path God has prepared for them.

Teachers at Usher mentor learners through formal roles, class teachers, department heads, club patrons, and through everyday interactions in corridors, dormitories, and the sports field. Discipline is understood as care: fair correction that preserves dignity and redirects behaviour.

Senior teachers model professionalism for newer colleagues, while prefects and hostel leaders learn mentorship from staff who invest in the next generation. This culture of guidance ensures that high standards and compassion go hand in hand across the school.
